      Mike Machat is one of America's most well-known aviation artists. His artwork has won numerous awards in art competitions, and graces displays in the Pentagon, National Air & Space Museum, and many airline corporate headquarters worldwide. The U.S. Air Force Documentary Art Program collection boasts 21 Machat originals.
      Mike is a firm believer in "living the experience" of flight. He has flown in nearly 200 different types of aircraft, from the B-52 to the Concorde, and in such tactical aircraft as the A-4, F-104, F-15, and F-16, continually blending his love of aviation with his artistic talents. Known for his thorough research and choice of unusual subject matter, Mike has built a strong collector following and has emerged as an important contributor to America's aviation art.
      Alan Bean, was the fourth man to walk on the moon as Lunar Module pilot on Apollo 12, the second lunar landing. Although it has been more than 25 years, this Artist-astronaut’s footprints still lie undisturbed on the Moon's Ocean of Storms. Alan left NASA in 1981 to pursue his lifelong passion for art. Inspired by the impressionists and studying under contemporary masters, he is a first-rate artist who is as comfortable rendering sharp realism as he is with portraying subtle emotions through a faceless spacesuit--but there's a bonus: As the only artist who has visited another world, Bean paints with an authenticity and insight completely unique in the entire history of art. His is a personal portfolio of the golden era of space exploration as viewed by the only artist who has BEEN there.

Aviation and Space Prints

       In this newsletter we’ve showcased several examples of aviation art. Each print, in addition to being a valuable collectible for the quality of the work, is a piece of history. Several of the prints portray events from World War I and World War II, while others chronicle more recent events in aviation history.
      To further enhance the historical aspect, many aviation and space prints are autographed by the individuals portrayed, or otherwise related to the subject matter—in addition to the artist. This is an exciting feature of aviation art. Many times aviation prints feature signatures from combatants on both sides of a conflict. This would be like having a print of the Battle of the Little Big Horn signed by Gen. George Armstrong Custer, Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull.
       We have attempted here to give you a taste of a new and exciting element in the art world. Imagine what it would have been like to buy a Frederic Remington, or a Charles M. Russell piece, at the beginning of this century. The artists featured in this newletter are the chroniclers of the frontiers of the Twentieth Century.
